Install Mac Os X From Shared Dvd Drive

Drag your USB (or a Dual-Layer DVD) drive from the list on the left into the ' Destination ' box and click ' Restore ' (or just click the 'Burn' button in the upper left if you're using a Dual-Layer DVD) and in 10-30 minutes (depending on whether you're using USB 2.0 or 3.0) you'll have your backup disk ready to instal on as many Macs as you like. Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD into the DVD drive. If your Mac uses a tray to hold the DVD, make sure that it retracts and that the disc is in. If you have a tray-loading DVD-ROM drive and it’s closed, you can get it to open by restarting (or starting up) your Mac while pressing the mouse button.

My cd/dvd drive busted WHILE I was upgrading the OS to 10.5. Now I get the folder with the question mark when I start up, or a blank screen. Other than installing a new cd/dvd drive, how can I install the OS without the drive? I only have other Intel Macs to use, no PPC. I don't believe Firewire/Target disk will help much in this case will it? I don't need any data from the currently unreadable hard drive - luckily had transferred everything ahead of time, but also erased a backup OS 10.4 boot drive too soon.
